FIELD GUIDE COLLECTION

Hot-melt systems

Separate supply problems from application problems.

Where to begin

A labeling defect and a carton-closing defect can share a hot-melt supply system while demanding different investigations. Record when the defect begins, whether it follows one head or the whole machine, and what changed in material or production conditions. Preserve the previous settings before making an authorized adjustment.

For reel-fed wraparound labels, start with the supply and seam record. For fine adhesive threads at cut-off, use the stringing guide to distinguish nozzle, material and environmental checks.

Choose the question you need to answer

Use Hot-Melt Labeling: Supply, Application and Failure Records to trace the label from reel to overlap seam.

Use Hot-Melt Adhesive Stringing: Supply and Nozzle Troubleshooting to record defect onset and isolate causes without guessing settings.

What to carry into an equipment or material review

Bring the actual package identifiers, the previous accepted condition and a record of the failure or change you are investigating. Label unmeasured values as unknown. Ask the responsible supplier to connect each proposed setting to the specific equipment and material combination.
